NM People’s March
On January 18, 2025 people rallied at the Santa Fe Plaza to support personal freedom to fight fascism, protect our rights as citizens, and help defend US Democracy.
Over 200 people gathered at the Santa Fe Plaza for a freedom rally. It was cold and windy, but there was a great turnout and a lot of collaboration. We need more of this, and it is our goal to promote safe, legal protests and actions that will impact our lives in a positive way.
Support for democracy is of the utmost importance right now. Stand up for your rights, stand up for the rights of others. Let’s stop the persecution of minorities, the rollback of women’s rights, marginalizing people of color and LGBTQ+ rights, lack of gun control, safe birth control, and show opposition to the massive corporate greed that has become the norm, not the exception.
The power is in our hands to oust the promoters of hatred and fascism from our system of government. This must be done to save us all from the burden of tyranny and oppression. For nearly 250 years the United States has stood not only as a beacon of democracy, but as a friend to other nations, supporting their goals, protecting them (and us) from aggression, and combating hunger and promoting lifesaving healthcare. Today, that is all in jeopardy. Oligarchs and the wealthy have taken over our ruling parties, alienating our allies, destroying social programs, and are dismantling institutions that aid us all. Teenage computer hackers are accessing our personal information, and it is not with benevolent intent. For instance, the Veteran’s Administration helps our retired and disabled men and women who have given to keep us free. We cannot neglect them the services they were promised. The VA, Dept. of Education, USAID, NOAA, National Parks, the FBI/intelligence agencies, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and many other divisions of the US Government are under siege, and need our help. The NM People’s March was a small drop in the bucket of change, but a necessary one, and one that promoted a message that today must be amplified. Help us get loud. Stand up for what is right. Protest, vote, encourage others by informing them of the facts, not misinformation.
